These chicken wings in the air fryer turn out so crispy and I don’t mean to sound cliché – but finger licking good!

The Marinade

I’m more than happy to take short cuts wherever I can. Using a store bought pre-mixed seasoning is definitely one of them.

A typical chicken seasoning usually has something like basil, rosemary, garlic powder, mustard, paprika, black pepper, thyme, celery seed, parsley, cumin, cayenne pepper, and chicken bouillon blended together. These herbs and spices can vary however. I like to use this brand.

Combine this chicken seasoning with the lemon juice, olive oil, chili and cayenne pepper, salt and garlic powder for 30 minutes or more (leaving it over night is best). This will help you achieve the most flavorful wings.

The Air Fryer

I have 2 recommendations and I have personally owned and used both of these air fryers.

If you need a larger air fryer, then try this brand. I have only owned it for a short period of time but I absolutely love it. Especially for the fact that it is larger and has 2 baskets, so I don’t have to cook in batches which takes longer.

If your portions are smaller or you are cooking for less people, then definitely try this brand. I had it for over a year and had I not dropped it and dented the basket, I’m sure it would have continued to serve me well!

What does baking powder do to chicken wings?

Baking powder helps give the chicken wings its crispiness. In fact it almost makes the wings look like they have been breaded when they haven’t been! Its important to add the baking powder and coat the wings evenly right before they are going into the air fryer.

Can you air fry frozen wings?

Yes you can put frozen chicken wings in the air fryer.  However, you wouldn’t be able to marinate them properly. The flavor would not be absorbed into the wings.

Chicken wings can be thawed in the air fryer at a lower temperature for around 10 minutes before you turn the heat up to cook them.

Are air fryer chicken wings healthy?

The wings are mostly skin and fat, so they are not a healthy option.  However, if you air fry them instead of deep fry them, it makes the chicken wings a little healthier.

Can air fryer chicken wings be Keto?

You can make chicken wings Keto, but you will have to make some sacrifices! Now this is assuming you will be eating wings as your main meal as opposed to an appetizer.

Because of the starch in baking powder, you will likely have to make the wings without it. The sauces I use are also high in sugar and carbs, so you won’t be able to use the sauce in this recipe either.

So bottom line, to make chicken wings Keto, marinate them as directed, then air fry them and eat them as is. I’m sure they will still be flavorful and delicious!
