There are plenty of beautiful and safe sights to see in America. However, there’s also some bad parts, and that includes areas where violent crimes have skyrocketed over the past years.

Neighborhood Scout revealed the 100 most dangerous cities based on the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Let’s take a look at some of the most dangerous cities in the United States and where you’re most likely to get robbed, stabbed, or even worse. The top ten include Bessemer, Alabama, Mobile, Alabama, Monroe, Louisiana, Saginaw, Michigan, Memphis, Tennessee, Detroit, Michigan, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Little Rock, Arkansas and Alexandria, Louisiana.

The following are more cities and some of the comments from an online forum of people who have lived or visited before.

Richmond, Virginia

Richmond VA may seem like a small and peaceful city in the deep south, but what many people don’t seem to remember is that it was the murder of capital of Virginia in the 1990s, and top ten in the whole country. This city appears to be one of the most violent ones in the country.

“Honestly, it wasn’t bad so long as you’re staying out of the public housing spots.”

Bridgeport CT. Have you ever heard of it? No? Because we certainly haven’t! Yet, somehow, it was once on the top ten list for the highest murder rate in the United States.

“All of Connecticut’s cities made these lists because they were essentially “poorest neighborhoods plus central business districts.”

Eight Mile, one of the worst areas in one of the worst cities inside of the United states, where famous rapper Eminem happens to come from. There is no doubt about the fact that the Motor City, once a bustling hub of innovation, is now nothing more than a wide swath of abandoned houses full of crooks.

“Poverty. It’s part of the rust belt where manufacturing jobs disappeared leaving a large percent of previously middle class and affluent people adrift.”

Bessemer, Alabama

Bessemer has a reputation for being poor, dirty, and so full of crime that most normal people want to stay away from it. We wonder if the residents of this city also feel the same way?

“I used to live in Birmingham, everyone tried their best to stay the hell away from Bessemer.”

We couldn’t help but smile when we read this thread, because directly under the section where it says that people who live in Birmingham try to stay away from Bessemer, it says that most people try to stay the heck away from Birmingham as well! Seems as though Alabama is not an overly popular place to visit.

“People try to stay the heck away from most of Birmingham as well lol.”

Elkhart may sound like a cute and quaint little country town, but it is anything but that. According to the residents themselves, this city is rife with homelessness, violence, violent crime, and plenty of shootings galore.

Jackson, Mississippi

Going back to the South, Jackson Mississippi is yet another city where many people choose to stay away from. Although it has its nice areas, the crime levels are absolutely sky high, and most people who aren’t from there would never dream of visiting.

“I’ve been to Jackson and that place legitimately terrified me. I was owled eyed the whole time”

Gary, Indiana

We don’t know what Gary did to anger everybody, but the reality is that Gary appears to be one of the least popular cities in Indiana, and in the whole USA. It appears as though half of the people in Gary IN have been murdered, and half of those people are going to come back to murder you as ghosts.

“Can’t murder anyone if everyone’s been murdered!”

Minneapolis, Minnesota

If we are talking about a city that is notorious for crime and even police brutality, then look no further than Minneapolis, otherwise known as the city where George Floyd was brutally murdered by police in broad daylight. How is this city supposed to be considered safe if it’s the so-called law-enforcers doing the harm?

There’s definitely a few rougher neighborhoods!”

Chicago, Illinois

There’s a reason why Chicago is referred to as CHIRAQ, because it currently is, and has been one of the most dangerous cities in all of the USA for a very long time. The South side of Chicago is notorious for its gang wars.

“Just like Chicago, most of the violent crime in Mexico is gang/cartel related.”

Rockford, Illinois

As is often the case with really big cities with high violent crime rates that get a lot of attention, most people who live nearby know where the real trouble lies. As many people living nearby Chicago will tell you, Rockford is a much worse area to live in. It makes Chicago look like a five star resort.

“As someone raised in Rockford, it’s always fun when Chicago crime gets brought up and I get to say where I grew up was worse….. especially since most people outside of Illinois have no idea where Rockford even is.”

Memphis, Tennessee

Although there is a whole lot of good in Memphis, especially where blues music is concerned, there also appears to be a massive crime rate. As many people will tell you, there are some areas of Memphis where you just don’t walk around by yourself, or at all for that matter.

“Don’t go walking in Memphis.”
