Combine flour, sugar, spices, salt and baking powder. Mix in shortening with a fork. Combine vinegar, egg and water until a dough forms.
After separating the dough into even balls, get your rolling pin and flatten into an 8 inch circle.
Scotch bonnet pepper add some spice to the beef patties. You can customize the spice level by using one pepper instead or omitting it altogether.
Blend all of the ingredients together for the ground beef filling, including the peppers, onions, and spices like ground thyme, paprika, allspice, garlic and onion powder.
Fill each circle of rolled out dough with 1/3 cup of the beef filling.
Fold over the dough and use a fork to seal the edges together.
Bake the Jamaican beef patties for 25 to 30 minutes and let cool before enjoying!
