She is Going on Vacation With a Friend
OP says Meg’s family is really rich and so she was allowed to bring a friend on vacation. OP feels a little awkward that she wasn’t Meg’s first choice. In fact, she was Meg’s third choice. OP says Meg’s family vetoed the first two because they didn’t want her bringing a boy and they disliked her other female friend.
They Paid for Everything
Meg’s parents bought OP’s plane ticket and booked the resort which she was very grateful for. OP saved money to pay for her own meals and activities while there and also planned to treat the family to a dinner as a thank you.
They All Flew First Class Except for Her
The nine other people that went, including Meg, her mother, father, two of her father’s friends and her three brothers all flew first class while OP was left in economy by herself. She didn’t mind though since it was paid for.
They Bought Groceries
The first night they went grocery shopping. It turns out they wanted to cook at the resort kitchen for the entire trip.
She Was Surprised to Learn She Was the Cook
It turned out that the family expected Meg and OP to cook. OP wasn’t warned about this at all. Meg’s family is traditional and so the women were expected to cook. Meg’s mom had surgery on her hand so she didn’t have to.
OP Doesn’t Cook Much
The girls were expected to cook for six men and Meg’s mom three times a day. OP says she can cook a couple of staple meals to feed herself but she rarely eats meat so she doesn’t know how to cook it. She also doesn’t know how to cook for a big group of nine people.
She Made a Mistake
OP says she screwed up and undercooked the chicken and overcooked the steak.
Meg’s Dad Was Angry
Meg’s dad became angry with OP, who in return lost her temper with him. OP told him that if he knew how to do better then he could pitch in instead of standing around criticizing. He became furious and said that he was on vacation and OP said she was also trying to have a vacation.
The Argument Escalated
The argument became even more heated after she asked them if they invited her to be an unpaid domestic servant. After OP made that statement, Meg’s parents and dad’s friends got angry and all started yelling at her. She sarcastically called herself the “help.”
The Dad Told Her to Leave
Meg’s dad snapped at OP and told her to get out of their suite and go home. He didn’t say or care about how she returned home.
She Immediately Called the Airline
OP called the airline and asked if there was a way to prevent anyone else from modifying or canceling her plane ticket. They let her set a passcode so that no changes could be made to the flight without it.
She Continued Her Vacation
OP was able to get an affordable room because of a weekday discount. She even had money left over to spend on sight seeing. OP enjoyed her time until she ran into Meg’s parents.
Meg’s Parents Were Walking on the Beach
Meg’s parents were taking a sunset walk and did a double-take when they saw OP on the beach. They said they thought she had gone home. OP told them she decided to stay. They were angry because OP was using their return flight. They felt like OP had deceived them and was using them when she could actually afford to stay there on her own.
Was She Wrong?
Meg is wondering if she is wrong for continuing to stay on the vacation and using their return flight home.

It’s not that hard to say “Just so you know, part of this trip will be cooking 3 meals a day for a group of 9, I know it’s old fashioned but it’s what my family expects of women” and give OP a chance to say “ok thanks for the invite but no thanks.”
